Editing the Commercial

Today we were told to edit our commercial that we dumped onto the computer last class. When we got onto the computer, another group tried to come over and say that they dumped on that computer and that they needed. We then proceeded to tell them that it was our computer. We then showed them proof that my team's folder was on the computer. One of the guys walked away but they all didn't leave. One of the guys tried to tell us that their footage was dumped onto that computer. Obviously they didn't show us any proof that they recorded what computer they used. We didn't let them use the computer. They all walked away but came back a few minutes later to tell us that they needed to take the footage off. I was willing to let them to get them away from us. When I went into the folder for then to take their footage our, I didn't see any work.
They finally left and my team and I opened pinnacle studios to edit our commercial. We were stuck when we opened it. We saw that we had to log in but we didn't know what information to use. I thought that it might have been our student log in information but didn't act on my thoughts. Then Camila said that it should be our student information so I tried it. It didn't work, so we called over our teacher. She logged in with her information, then she had to log in again, because it messed up. We waiting for it to load but it never did. After five minutes of waiting, we called the teacher over to sign back in again. When the teacher came over, it started working.
After the teacher left we began the process of editing. We forgot how to get our footage imported into pinnacle studios so we tried to drag it and import it through the import button. We also tried to copy and paste. Nothing worked so we had to call over our teacher again. When our teacher came over, they tried to get our footage over too. When they couldn't get it over, they told us not to worry about it and to just write our blogs. Since it wasn't working, they weren't going to fail us. When we got back to our seats at the tables and started writing our blogs. After writing some of it, one of the teachers made an announcement saying that it wasn't working for anybody and for everyone to just write the blogs.

Filming the Commercial

When we first got to class, I was worried that our props wouldn't be here. Luckily, Kyndell brought the Dunkin' Donuts iced coffee prepackaged bottle. I also made sure that Camila had the school spirit shirt for the shots. After the teacher went over a quick review for everything for the day, we got our equipment and headed out to shoot our commercial. There was a bit of confusion while we were still in the classroom trying to get the camera, tripod, and filling pass. We found that the screen on the camera was cracked but the teacher said it was fine. Then we found that the tripod was kind of broken, but she said that was fine too. On our way out of the door we all agreed that we would follow the storyboard exactly. Of course that didn't end up happening,
When we got outside, we forgot where our first scene was supposed to be shot out. After checking the storyboard paper, we headed over to the senior patio for filming. When we got over there, we has many other groups filming in the same place, I thought that this must have been a popular place to film. It took us awhile to set up everything to shoot our first scene. We had to practice the scene like eight times before shooting. While I was shooting the first few scenes, we kept deciding to change it. We had to shoot first based on the storyboard then shoot how we thought it would be better. Kyndell was the one who wanted to change it, and since it's our first commercial, we allowed her to. On our way to shoot at the other location, my teammates decided that it would be good if I was in front of the camera, in the scenes, than behind.
Since I had to be in the scenes, instead of behind the camera, it stressed me our not knowing how I looked and how it was being shot. It took us awhile to set up for these scenes too. We had to change shirts so I would be wearing a school spirit shirt. I had to borrow a backpack to wear. And we had to spend time deciding how the scenes were going to be shot since we were changing it all. When we got to the location, we decided that what was on our storyboard wasn't going to work so we knew that we had to change it anyway. We took many shots of the same scene incase we messed up or didn't like it one way. We, Kyndell and I kept messing up when we were shooting, but we eventually got it down. After we finished shooting, and got all the footage that we needed, we heading but up to the class room to dump all of our work. After we dumped all of our work, we still had time and we decided to watch our scenes.

Editing Lesson blog

Today in class we learned about how to edit. We learned that dumping is bring the takes from the camera onto the computer and the final takes are called shots. This will be important when I have to communicate with my teammates later on in the project.  We were also told that our dates will be changing, which means we have more time to storyboard. We learned that pinnacle studios is the computer software that we will use to edit our work. During the hour long presentation, we were told to take notes, since this was a very important lesson. The good thing about taking notes for this lesson is that if we have any questions, we can refer to our notes to help us. We learned exactly how to use pinnacle studios and what to do when someone is absent. We also learned about all of the equipment that we will be using for filming, those being: the camera, the tripod, and the SD card. The SD card reader will only be used when we want to start editing.
When we are ready to edit, we will have to make sure we get back to class, get the SD reader, and dump out work onto the computer. After we do that we were told to put the SD reader back for other kids to use then edit our footage. We learned about the different types of editing, like cutting; transitions; and sound effects. Me and my team agreed to do a voice over for our commercial to make sure it sounds good. Something else that we learned was how to import and export our information when we are started and when we are finished. We also learned to make sure that everything is saved before we export. The class was advised to use the school computers since it had the software on it. Since the pinnacle studios app for computers was over $100, my team agreed to use a computer. Our teacher showed us a demonstration on how to use the camera and tripod. She went over exactly what to do.
She talked about how to insert and eject the SD card. We learned about how it turns on and what to do if it doesn't (it's more than likely just dead). We learned how to properly carry a tripod and how not to carry a tripod. The class learned about when we could check out cameras and when they had to be returned. We also talked about what to do if one of our teammates isn't here. Since she spent so much time talking, and showing us the software and the camera, she gave us an extension on our homework, writing this blog. Of course, when we assigned it, it was only due at the end of class, but she gave us until the end of the day to complete it. I cant wait until I get to complete my storyboard for the commercial next class. Me and my teammates will finally get to work on how the commercial will look and how it will turn out.

Planning Blog for Dunkin’ Donuts Commercial

Today we are working in our planning phase due at the end of today. We have to plan how
our entire commercial is going to be set up. we have to plan the props, costumes, schedule,
location and the back up plan. Our vision for the Dunkin’ Donuts commercial is to show the
Dunkin’ Donuts coffee as an energizer for students at Fort Lauderdale High School. For
example having the coffee will make the students feel more energized and more ready to do homework and get to class and be ready for their sports. We will be sure to get the coffee the
day filming starts from the Dunkin’ Donuts coffee shop and also get a cold brew Dunkin’ Donuts from our school vending machines. This will make it easier to market this product because it will show many forms of the Dunkin’ Donuts coffee make it easier to market this product because it will show many forms of the Dunkin’ Donuts coffee.
Props
For the commercial we will use two dunkin’ donuts coffees, one from the store and one that is
prepackaged. We will also use a water bottle for the first few scenes. We will also have
notebooks textbooks and backpacks to imply the students are studying or working on
schoolwork.
Costumes
We will be wearing school spirit clothes to show that we go to the school.
Schedule
Planning - 10/10
Storyboard - 10/14
Filming - 10/21
Editing - 10/23
Location

studying.
If someone is absent, we will use an understudy

Commercial Reasearch: Conventions and Codes

Today in class, I got the information for a new commercial project. We went over what information we needed to make it and how we were going to work it out through two weeks. We went over the titles that we are going to need for our blogs, and what was supposed to be the general information in them, to clarify, we are not going to write about our other classes or afterschool activities, it's only going to be a blog about what we did in class. We also went over the lists of commercial ideas that we are allowed to film. My group chose to make a commercial about the cheerleading team out our school. I wrote notes and marked due dates in my agenda to notify me when the work was due.
Because its split into three weeks, we have work slowed down and due during certain classes. For example, our blog post for the first day, is due today at the end of class. We were told when we had to turn in our planning information, and our storyboard, both on different days. We were also told when our editing and final commercial is due, in three weeks. I was told that we will have one day to film and one day to edit, since we can only work in the class and the class time, it will probably make it harder to get everything that we need. With only the 90 minutes a class to get all the work in that we need to get in that day, it will put more stress on to me, which can probably lead to me falling behind in my other classes, but since it's not homework, it shouldn't interfere with my other classes.
Working in my group for the commercial should be easier than others since in my group, we are friends but we are also professional when we have to be. Because if this, we get along and we get our work done. Being able to work with people that I get along with will benefit the project because that means it will run smoothly. My group is also trustworthy so we will get all of our work done and turned in when we need it to be. This project will show how well I work with my group as well as how well I can film my first commercial.

Introductory

On Thursday, in class, we finished watching a clip from Mr. Robot and analyzing it for our first practice test. I realized that I am not good at that and need practice, I also need to study my vocabulary for that. Since it was my first practice test, I didn't do as well as I would have hoped, but with practice and time, I should be able to get it all correct. Since it's the beginning of the school year I have time to study and work on what I need to. We went over the four things that make good scenes, mis en scene; lighting, angles, and sound.
I found sound and mis en scene to be really easy. There were many sounds that most people overlook and pass it off as normal sounds. Even I used to pass them off as normal when I would watch T.V before. Things such as the cars honking as they drove by or the sound or a trail on the railroad would get passed off as normal sounds, being about to point them out made me feel like I was actually learning in that class and not just doing the work to get the grade.
Mis en scene was another thing that I found easy to find. In any movie, there will be costumes, even if its normal clothes, because many of those outfits would suit the character and their personality. Another part was setting which was also easy because whether it takes place in space or a hundred years ago, there will always be a time and place for every film.
This class has opened my eyes to a new world on the creation of media, and the test let me know how much I really knew. I'm looking forward to being able to pinpoint everything about the scenes by the end of the year and increasing my knowledge on these topics. Being able to watch any film, clip, or scene and pick out everything is definitely something I look forward to.
