Editing Blog

On Tuesday, I went into class with the determination to edit. I was very excited to see how our scenes turned out. I get into class and immediately grabbed a laptop and an SD reader and got ready to see everything. Camila still wasn't in class but I was too worried about the clips to notice. I pull everything up and find out that I can't figure out how to import my clips. It took me a minute but once I get everything pulled up I watched my clips. I stopped the video and realized that we were missing scenes! I had to think back to when I was filming and realized that I probably messed up and forgot to press play. I was always doing that. When Camila gets into class, I tell her about it and we figure out a plan to get those scenes. After we came up with a plan we started editing.
We knew that we only had two and a half days to edit. This is because neither one of us had Pinnacle studios on our personal laptops and we aren't allowed to take any home to edit. We had to rush to get everything done in the time that we had which wasn't long. We cut the scenes that we didn't like and shorted them too. Working on Pinnacle Studios was killing me from how slow it was moving. It would take two minutes to load the clip when we only had five minutes left, or whatever the case was. It felt like I was rushing against time because my partner was useless. She wasn't completely useless, but I was the one who held the camera and editing 90% of the work. I even came up with the idea to get a camera and reshoot the scenes that I needed. I was even the one to tell her to tell our actors to be there.
By the end of class on Tuesday, I managed to get most of the footage edited. On Wednesday after school, I want back to class to get a camera. When I walked in, nobody was there. I didn't know what to do because we needed those scenes. I spotted a camera on the teachers desk, I checked the battery, and left a note saying I took it and that I would return it. I was willing to face the consequences for taking the camera even if it meant dropping a grade or even failing the class. After practice that day, everyone involved in the video headed over to to the park to reshoot. I made sure to get as many clips as we could because we needed those shots. We spent a good hour at the park reshooting. After I was 100% sure we got all of the clips, everyone went home and I returned the camera to the school.
When I got back to school the next morning I went to get the camera and return it to class. I left it in the most secure place I could think of, my Coaches office. He let me get it and I headed to class where I saw one of my teachers. She let me know that I was in trouble at all and that I was very responsible leaving a note. I was still worried that my other teacher would get mad at me but he wasn't either. I was very glad that they weren't mad at me. During editing, I had to add the music in and I learned how to make clips longer and shorter. It took a long time to get everything how we wanted it. We still don't have everything because I still need to add transitions and make everything line up. I asked many times if I could stay later but I was turned away every time. Hopefully I will have the time that I need to add what I need to on Monday and turn it in on time.

Filming, for real this time

We filmed the day before thanksgiving break. This was really frustrating because I had to wait the entire week to see the footage. When we got back to school I had to wait another day because we didn't have class which made it even more frustrating because that meant we only had teo days to edit. On the day of editing, we only had three people for the video and it was going to be very hard to record.  When we get to our destination, the park, I was very frustrated and ready to give up and take a 0 in the grade book when one of my friends came to the rescue. We got to the benches and my friend was sitting there on her laptop. I asked her if she wouldn't mind being in it and she said yes. Then I forced her to be the singer for it. Since she was my friend she wasn't going to say no.
Before we started shooting we had to set up everything which took awhile. Right before we started shoot another friend came and my stress was eased before we had another person. We let him in on the information and what we were doing and he was good. It took us awhile to shoot our first scene because Sarah, the singer barely knew the lyrics. After we taught her the lyrics and told her what she was going to do, we did a practice shot. She was really bad so we had to take three more shots. We finally got one that we liked and went into the next scene. For the next scene we had to take a few shots because they were a little unclear on when to throw the paper balls. It was taken in less shots but it worked out. I felt like I was being really rude the whole time but I didn't care because I needed the shots.
Everyone was very hard to work with because they kept laughing and making jokes. We told them that we would give them service hours if they took it more seriously and they did. We had to change our storyboard around a lot because we didn't have the car and we couldnt make the beach scenes. We shot everything at the park in two hours. In the beginning, before we shot we spent a lot of time stressing over how we were going to shoot and some people even came up with the idea of shooting with barbie dolls. It took me 30 minutes to convince them that barbies would not work. After our first shot, we had someone leave and I started stressing about it. I quickly learned that it wouldn't matter because she was barely in the first shot. Without the sparklers, beach, or car, it was really difficult to shoot and I even considered taking over as the lead roll. We figured out that we couldn't do that because Camila, my partner, wouldn't be able to shoot as good as I could, said by a friend.
